Urban Bike Paths
30 03 2009It’s sort of similar to what happens when a dirt path appears in a grassy field after lots of people have taken the same shortcut over a period of time.
HOW FUN.

By using the Contrail bicyclists will have a clearer path on which to ride safely and out of the way of vehicular traffic. At the same time, as more bicyclists using the Contrail go over a line created by a cyclist before them, the line gets brighter allowing drivers to clearly see a marked bike path where there might be none.
The goal is to encourage biking participation by allowing the community to leave a unique mark on the road and to reclaim this crucial shared space.
We also think that it will help city planners understand growing bicycle routes.

Purple Pedals
16 02 2009The Purple Pedals bikes, part of the Purple Pedals Project, are not owned by any one individual. They are a series of bikes with digital cameras mounted on the handle bars. The photos are immediately sent into the site so you can basically follow the rider’s progress. Each bike adventure showcases unique events, people, and locations across the globe.
You can tune in to see who’s behind the wheel and where they’ve been.
I caught a couple of them crossing the Golden Gate Bridge with the Amgen Tour of California.

It’s unclear whether or not “anyone” can take the bikes on a trip. I’d LOVE to see them partner with GOOGLE MAPS and develop the must needed bike option missing on their “Get Directions” feature. They currently offer driving, public transit, and walking.

It looks like one of the bikes is over here in the east bay. I wonder if I can head over and borrow it for a ride

Clever Cycles
27 07 2008Caught this shop on Sunday Morning today.
Portland based Clever Cycles supports bicycling as primary transportation, serving households and businesses seeking to avoid dependence on cars with stylish, practical bikes and accessories for everyday use.
In other words, they provide bike solutions.
How many times have we looked at one of our bikes and thought “Well, I would ride it but there isn’t enough cargo room.” Or any of the other myriad of excuses that prevent us from riding. “It will get stolen,” “I’m wearing a dress,” “What to do with grandma?”….bla bla bla.
This team has inspired me to make more of an effort. They have a variety of accessories that will help resolve most of the hurdles.

The rollercoaster was made using a chain saw and scaffolding by Stockholm-based artist Anders Jakobsen (also known as Lagombra).
