Family Wealth

30 11 2007

Family Wealth Planning Institute is a new client for DK Design. They are a green law firm whose mission is to teach parents and grandparents how to prepare their children to receive wealth and use that wealth to positively impact the world.

We are working on show materials for the Eco-Gift show in Santa Monica, December 15-16th.

Green Gift Giving List

26 11 2007

If you are interested in giving green this holiday season we’ve put together a list of options.

EarthMoment, a project of Ogden Publications, links to hundreds of online stores – big and small, green and not-so-green alike – and donates a percentage or flat fee from shoppers’ purchases to a range of carbon offset projects.

Tree Hugger [yes, all the conservative readers just gave us a mighty 'eye roll'] has a yearly Green Gift Guide that, this year, has shades of green. Dark green being the best choice for least amount of impact.

Grist which promotes giving nothing or ’stuff-free’ gifts.

Salvage or thrift shops [local to the bay area].

Oxfam Unwrapped which gives a gift, in the recipients name, to a person in need. I donated the school desk and chair in my 4 year old nephew’s name for his birthday. You’d think that he’d never speak to me again but quite the opposite. He actually made the connection and really felt the joy of giving. Of course the program is used symbolically, but for some people…especially children…making that personal connection helps them learn compassion. Click here for an explanation of how it works.

World of Good creates opportunities for hundreds of artisan cooperatives around the world to share their best work with you by serving as a bridge to the U.S. retail market. They respectfully assist artisans by providing access to fair wages, safe working conditions and long-term economic sustainability.

Sundance has a nice list of options here.

The California Dept. of Conservation Green Gift Guide is light on content, but easy to read and navigate.

And for skeptical readers, here’s a list of sins you can keep an eye out for used by some companies trying to take advantage of the green marketplace.

Shine Website is Live!

25 11 2007

The WordPress blog based site went live a couple weeks ago.

We’re quite happy with the results and it has generated several new clients interested in the same technology. Having a branded site that can be updated using a simple blog interface is a huge benefit to clients. In addition, we can keep the cost to a manageable level which is appealing to small companies.

Visit the live site here. And we also took some great promotional photos for them as well. You can see them here.

Chicago GreenBuild Conference & Expo, 2007

16 11 2007

Former President Bill Clinton kicked off GreenBuild Chicago by announcing several partnerships with his Climate Initiative aimed at reducing carbon emissions. Not the least of which is with Mayor Daley who plans to make Chicago the greenest city in the country.

He’s off to a good start.

The show was very crowded and the energy was palpable. Green build is exciting on so many levels.

Click here for more of our photos from the show.

Think ~ U.S. Postal Service

13 11 2007

From the Sundance Channel, here’s a video featuring our hero William McDonough and the Chief Marketing Officer of the USPS, Anita Bizzotto explaining their Cradle to Cradle initiative for the Post Office and how it was implemented.

Direct mail is an integral part of marketing. There is a fine line between marketing and selling your product profitably and how environmentally conscious you can be. By constantly seeking out ways to take advantage of new products or processes we’re able to develop marketing strategies that fit your company.

Green Festival ~ San Francisco

11 11 2007

Green Festivals are a celebration of what’s working in our communities– for people, for businesses, and for the environment.

A joint project of two national nonprofit organizations, Global Exchange and Co-op America, Green Festivals bring together local and national socially responsible businesses, and environmental, social justice and community organizations.

We caught up with some of our favorite companies and learned even more about going green. Specifically, that this event is where all the hippies, their kids, and their grandkids landed.

Ignition! Event by Gen Art

10 11 2007

Gen Art is the leading arts and entertainment organization dedicated to showcasing emerging fashion designers, filmmakers, musicians and visual artists.

Last night they held the Ignition! event in San Francisco.

I went to support the cause but more specifically for friend and colleague, Nick Myerhoff from Girlrider.com clothing. He was doing live graffiti art which was a huge success.

Click here for all my photos from the event.

Mary Edith Cox Maison ~ Book

9 11 2007

A true pioneer and artist, Mary Edith Cox Maison is remembered and revered in a new book that we had the pleasure designing for her great-niece, Georgene Shelton.

Mary Cox was a musician and artist that helped settle the Coachella Valley in California in the early part of the 20th century.

Her paintings document the amazing beauty of the landscape as well as the hardships they endured.

Our very first “published” book will be available in the next month or so and we will update this posting.
